Just less than half of internet users are browsing on a mobile device. Thats 45% of any websites potential customers who will be using an iOS, android or windows device to read, shop and find information.
Its becoming increasingly important for website designs to be able to adapt and function on the different operating systems, software and screen sizes available on mobile devices. If the current trend in sales of tablets and smartphones continues its only a matter of years until internet use on mobile devices outnumbers those on desktop PC's and laptops.
To ensure that all your site visitors get a consistently enjoyable experience you need a website that's responsive. Responsive web design employs various techniques and technologies that allow the site to adapt the layout in a fluid manner, giving the visitor the optimum experience.

One advantage a responsive design can bring to a website is the new ablity to work "offline." A good example would be somebody browsing content on a website while on a train using a roaming internet connection. If the train goes through a tunnel they are likely to loose connection and therefore won't be able to use the website. These techniques can be programmed to varying degrees in responsive design and will allow them to keep using the site by storing all the neccessary files on the device.
There are three technical features that power responsive design:

- Grid-based flexible layout
Our recently released mobile site for a local, Birmingham based estate agents was built specifically for iPhones, Android and Windows mobile devices. The Layout is flexible which allows the user to get the best experience from the site and their smartphone or tablet.
